More than two dozen pinball competitors made their way to Funland Arcade on 23 February, as the venue hosted its second annual pinball tournament, featuring some of the latest Stern machines and “lots of exciting games.”

Funland Arcade in Brunswick Square, London, hosted its second annual pinball tournament last week, with a diverse group of 26 competitors representing both experienced players and newcomers attending their first event.

Funland: The Sequel, backed an d supported extensively by Electrocoin, took place on 23 February, and pitted players against one another in a Max Matchplay format, with each player given 15 headto-head games, assigned randomly across the arcade’s ten pinball machines.

“This was a fantastic event, and the fast-paced format worked really well,” said organiser Claire Lickman. “It was great to see both new players as well as more experienced ones.”

“Even though it is a competition, the atmosphere at these events is always friendly and welcoming, with players helping and encouraging each other – and this event was no exception. But there were also lots of exciting games, including some very close scores!”

The tournament was officially recognised by the International Flipper Pinball Association, the governing body of competitive pinball, with World Pinball Player Ranking points on offer for all players, as well as a range of prizes.

Punk Stig took first place during the competition, winning 14 of his 15 games – his very first win in nine years of playing competitive pinball – while Ian Clarricoats was in second place, Chris Poyntz was third, and Anton Stewart came in fourth.

All players received an official Stern keyring, and the top three players received additional prizes including posters, a Stern branded hat and vouchers for free play time at the arcade courtesy of Electrocoin.
