John Stergides, a well-known and popular figure in the UK amusements industry, has completed the 2025 London Landmarks Half Marathon, raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Crossing the finish line in an impressive 3 hours and 6 minutes, John ran the 13.1-mile route through the heart of the capital, passing iconic landmarks from Big Ben and St Paul’s Cathedral to the London Eye and Tower Bridge. But for John, the route was more than a scenic city run—it was a deeply personal journey.

During his own cancer treatment, John would regularly walk home from Guy’s Cancer Centre at London Bridge following each round of chemotherapy, regardless of the weather or how he felt. Those walks became a quiet act of resilience and a chance to connect with the city around him.

“I always wanted to walk back home no matter how I was feeling,” he said. “It gave me the chance to take in some of the sights of London before returning indoors. Being part of this marathon just felt like the right way to remember and honour that time in my life.”

John’s fundraising efforts are supporting Macmillan Cancer Support, a charity that provides essential emotional, financial, and practical assistance to people living with cancer. “Macmillan gives people with cancer everything they’ve got,” he added. “But without donations, they can’t reach everyone who needs them.”
